A good tank should be easy. It should frame your upper body, cover what needs covering, move when you train, and still look clean when you leave the gym.
The problem is most tanks are designed like a blank with the sleeves cut off. That is why they stretch at the neck, flare at the side, cling through the chest, or hang so thin that you spend the whole day checking it.
If the tank makes you think about the tank all day, the fit needs work.
01The four tank problems.
The first problem is the neckline. It starts clean, then pulls open, rolls, or drops too low. The second is the armhole, which opens enough from the side that you keep checking what is showing underneath.
The third is fabric. Thin jersey can cling exactly where you want calm. Heavy cotton can feel stiff and dead. The fourth is length: too short and it rides up, too long and it swallows the outfit. The London Tank answers all four with structure, coverage, fabric weight, and relaxed drape.
02The neckline has to hold.
A tank neckline is a frame. If it drops too low, it changes the whole read of the upper body. If it stretches out, it starts looking tired before the fabric has even worn in.
London uses a 3/8 inch inside bias binding with single-needle topstitch at the top and bottom. That sounds small, but it is the detail that helps the neckline sit sharper through repeat wear and washing.
No sag. No collapse.
The opening is built to keep its shape instead of turning into a stretched scoop after a few wears.
Clean, not tight.
The goal is a neckline that frames the body without feeling restrictive or making the tank hard to move in.
03The side gap is the dealbreaker.
The side opening is where most tanks lose people. Too open, and you feel exposed. Too tight, and it rubs or looks like compression. The London Tank sits closer through the armhole, but it is finished flat so the coverage does not feel sealed shut.
The armhole uses a 1/2 inch felt stitch reverse coverstitch, which gives a flatter interior and cleaner edge. It is technical, but the feeling is simple: less side-gap distraction, less irritation, more room to move.
04The fabric cannot cling.
COMF+ pique is the reason the tank does not read like a thin basic. The blend is 70% Modal Rayon for soft hand and drape, with 30% Recycled Polyester for structure, recovery, and durability.
The pique texture adds surface depth and airflow. It gives the garment more body than flat jersey, so the tank can feel soft without going limp. The hem is finished with a 3/4 inch coverstitch to keep the bottom edge clean while preserving drape weight.
A tank should not make you overthink the mirror. The right one lets you get dressed, move, and leave the house.
