Why this hoodieweighs morethan the premiumstreetwear default.

Most premium hoodies are 380 to 420 grams per square meter. The LA Hoodie is 560. The weight is the point — and we paid for it. Inside the trade and what we got back for it.

Most premium hoodies are 380 to 420 grams per square meter. That's the streetwear default. The LA Hoodie is 560 GSM. One-third heavier than the floor. That's a deliberate choice. So is the price we paid for it.

A cropped, drop-shoulder hoodie at 380 GSM collapses on the wearer. The hood folds. The shoulder line softens. Without weight, the silhouette doesn't hold.

Build rule / heavyweight

A hoodie this cropped only works if the fabric holds its own shape. Lighter weight = limp silhouette = no point in the cut.

01Why most hoodies are 380–420 GSM.

The premium streetwear default is 380 to 420 GSM. That weight gives a hoodie enough body to feel substantial without making it heavy to wear or slow to dry.

It's the safe number. It works in most climates, in most seasons, on most bodies. It's also why most premium hoodies feel interchangeable when you handle them in person — they're all built around the same fabric weight.

The LA Hoodie is not that.

02Why we went heavier.

Cropped, dropped-shoulder hoodies fail at 380 to 420 GSM. The body collapses on the wearer. The hood folds in on itself. The shoulder line softens. Without weight, the silhouette doesn't hold.

560 GSM is the threshold at which a cropped hoodie holds its drape independent of the wearer's body shape. The hood stays open. The shoulder stays dropped. The body keeps its form across wash cycles.

What 560 GSM givesvs. the 380–420 GSM streetwear default
DrapeThe body holds its shape on and off the wearer. No collapsing through the chest or under the arms.
HoodDouble-lined and weighted. Stays open and structured. Doesn't fold into a flat strip behind the neck.
Shoulder lineThe drop holds. The shoulder cap doesn't soften under the weight of the sleeve through wash cycles.
ReadThe hoodie reads substantial because it is substantial. Not because of a graphic, not because of a print.

03What 560 GSM cost.

Dry time. Lay-flat dry on a 560 GSM cotton hoodie takes 24 to 36 hours in low humidity. Tumble dry is faster but fades color and shortens lifespan.

Packability. A 560 GSM hoodie does not fold into a daypack discreetly. It travels heavy.

Summer wearability. Above 70°F (21°C) this hoodie reads warm. It's a cooler-weather piece and an indoor layering piece. It's not your July rotation.

We tell you these things up front because we chose them.

trade / what you give up

Speed and packability.

24–36 hours of lay-flat dry time. A bag that doesn't pack small. A piece that reads warm above 70°F. These are real constraints.

trade / what you get back

Structure that holds.

A silhouette that doesn't depend on the wearer's body to hold its shape. A hoodie that reads heavyweight because the fabric is heavyweight.

04Why we made the trade.

We didn't want a hoodie that needed graphics to read substantial. We wanted a hoodie that read substantial because it was substantial. 560 GSM does that without printing a logo across the chest.

The weight does the work.
